We are excited to announce Susan Jardaneh's "The One You Love" as the winner of our inaugural In-House Contest! "The One You Love" features a daughter's journey—in reverse—through her mother's illness. Susan Jardaneh's story will be published in the July 2019 issue, only a few months away!

"It Won't Be Your Co-Worker" by Michelle Leong

"Bluebirds" by John Blair

"Go Out Barking" by Kate Dusto

"The War of Naked Aggression" by Stephen Hundley

"Out There" by Chris Thomas

Lastly, we want to extend our warmest gratitude to everyone who submitted to the contest, including the ten additional semi-finalists. There were hundreds of wonderful short stories sent in, and many of them deserve—and will find—publication. We are ecstatic to continue to publish works of literary fiction that forefront language and take narrative, structural, and thematic risks, and the support of our community of readers and submitters is continually cherished and appreciated.

  • Submissions will be open from September 1st until January 7th.

  • Winner will be announced on April 1st 2019.

  • The winning short story will be published in 2019.
